Overview
Consecutive numbers are pairs like 12–13, 44–45—neighbours on the number line. UK Lotto draws of 6 numbers from 1–59 often contain at least one consecutive pair. Over 30 years, the observed rate matches the theoretical expectation.
Consecutive pairs describe history. They do not predict the next draw.
Important
Including or avoiding consecutive numbers does not change your odds. Each combination is equally likely.
Theoretical expectation
With 6 numbers from 1–59, there are 58 possible consecutive pairs (1–2, 2–3, …, 58–59). The probability that a random draw contains at least one consecutive pair is roughly 45–50%. So about half of draws have at least one pair.

Why consecutive pairs are common
With 6 numbers from 59, there are many ways to get at least one pair. For example, if you pick 7, the chance that 6 or 8 is also picked is non-trivial. Over thousands of draws, the observed rate converges toward the theoretical ~48%.
Does avoiding consecutives help?
No. Some players avoid consecutive numbers thinking they are "unlucky" or "too random". That is superstition. Consecutive and non-consecutive combinations have the same probability.
