Lucky Dip is the UK Lotto feature that generates random numbers for you. You do not pick anything—the terminal or app selects 6 numbers from 1–59 at random.

Every valid combination of 6 numbers has the same probability. Lucky Dip and self-selected numbers are mathematically equivalent.

Important

Whether you choose 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or let the machine pick random numbers, the chance of hitting the jackpot is the same: about 1 in 45 million.

Do the odds differ?

No. Every valid combination of 6 numbers has the same probability. Whether you choose 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or let the machine pick 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, the chance of hitting the jackpot is the same: about 1 in 45 million.

Lucky Dip and self-selected numbers are mathematically equivalent.

Why people prefer one or the other

Choosing your own numbers often involves:
